Lawrence Bowie

Lawrence Bowie has been an accompanist for BSA since 1987. A native of Peoria, IL, he was director of sacred music and organist for the Cathedral of St. Mary and accompanist for the Vocal Music Department at Woodruff High School. His church music career began in 1964, studying organ with Adelaide White, and then continued with Margaret Sayre and Rachel Mahue at Bradley University School of Music. Bowie has performed in many venues, including the Alexandra Palace, London; Chartres Cathedral, France; Abbey of St. Florian, Austria; St. Peter’s Cathedral, Germany; Washington National Cathedral; Round Lake Auditorium, New York; National O.H.S. Convention, Baltimore; Mississippi AGO Chapter; Bach Society, Baltimore; Loyola University Chamber Orchestra; and the Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary. His performances have been broadcast on Public Radio International “Pipe Dreams” and WCBU “Pipes on the Prairie.” Bowie is currently the director of sacred music and organist at the Church of St. Rita in Alexandria, VA, and teaches private piano and organ.

Debra Robinson Deckelbaum

Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell ’88

Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell is an associate professor at Towson University. She began her dance training at the Baltimore School for the Arts under the guidance of Sylvester Campbell and Stephanie Powell. She was an apprentice with the Capitol Ballet in Washington, DC, and a full fellowship student at the Ailey School. She attended the Juilliard School before joining Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, where she performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Ms. Fisher-Harrell joined the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater under the direction of Judith Jamison where she became a principal dancer for 13 years. Ms. Fisher-Harrell received her M.F.A. in dance from Hollins/ADF University and is an ABT® Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Primary through Level 3 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. She has been a guest teacher for numerous organizations, and she’s received seven Individual Artist citations from the state of Maryland for performance and choreography.

Some of her special performances include the White House State Dinner for the president of Kenya (Mwai Kibaki), the 12th Annual Kennedy Center Gala with Nancy Wilson and Liza Minelli, The World Stars of the Opera International Ballet Gala in Budapest, Hungary (2001, 2003, 2005), Gala des Étoiles du XXI Siècle (Paris; and Toronto), the Fall for Dance Festival in New York, NY, the 2009 Chicago Dancing Festival, and the Judith Jamison Farewell Performance with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

Allen Good

Pianist Allen Good received his early musical training in Jacksonville, FL, where he studied with Natalie Szelwinska. He graduated from the Peabody Conservatory of Music in 1978 with the degree of master of music. He has been a member of the BSA Dance and Music departments since 1979. Good has served as company pianist for the Baltimore Ballet and has been master class pianist for such noted teachers as Violette Verdy, Jean-Pierre Bonnefous, Melissa Hayden, Edward Villella, and Michael Maul. He has been active in the Baltimore-Washington area as soloist, chamber musician, dance accompanist, and teacher. A number of his students have won prizes in local and regional competitions. Currently, he teaches piano, music theory, keyboard skills, and piano literature at BSA. In addition to his musical activities, Good holds a certificate in accounting from the University of Baltimore.

Iris Andersen Grizzell ’96

Iris Andersen Grizzell is a graduate of the Baltimore School for the Arts and holds a B.F.A. from the California Institute of the Arts. Her training began at the Peabody Preparatory Institute with Dale Center, followed by Caryl Maxwell Classical Ballet with Caryl Maxwell and Caroline Denzler, and then Kinetics Dance Theatre with Dottie Fried and Donna Pidel. She has trained with the Eglevsky Ballet, the Washington Ballet, and the Ailey School. During her four years at California Institute of the Arts, she was nominated for the Princess Grace Award and studied abroad in London at the London Contemporary Dance School.

Andersen Grizzell danced with the Pasadena Dance Theatre in California from 2003 to 2011, and from 2004 to 2011, she danced with the Francisco Martinez Dance Theatre in both concert and outreach performances throughout California. Andersen Grizzell received first place for her work in Howard County Ballet’s Young Choreographer’s Showcase in April 2011. Recently, she has performed with Bowen McCauley Dance, the Campbell Dance Experience and the Harford Ballet. She is currently the program manager of the TWIGS program at Baltimore School for the Arts, in which she also teaches ballet, pointe, and modern for the high school students.

Sandy Lacy

Sandra Lacy has a degree in psychology, is as associate of the Royal Academy of Dancing in London, and is a certified Gyrokinesis teacher. In August 2017, she will pursue her interest in somatics by beginning the certification program in the Feldenkrais Method.

Lacy has performed with the Maryland Ballet, Impetus Dance Company, Path Dance Company, Phoenix Repertory Dance, James Hansen’s Assemblage Dance Company, Lorraine Chapman, The Company, ClancyWorks, and Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane and Company. Notable venues at which Lacy has performed include Jacob’s Pillow, The Kennedy Center, The Joyce SoHo, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, Judson Church, The Winchester Street Theater, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and The Toronto International Festival of Dance. Lacy is part of the dance faculty at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County while also teaching at the Baltimore School for the Arts. She is the recipient of 9 Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Awards in Solo Dance Performance, including a 2017 award.

Dmitri Malikov

Dmitri Malikov graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the famed Bolshoi Ballet Academy in 1987. He was a soloist and principal dancer with Donetsk Ballet Co., Lvov Ballet Theatre, MCB, and the Ballet Theatre of Maryland. He has performed numerous principal roles in some of the most famous classical and contemporary works by some of the most recognized choreographers in the world. In 1999, Malikov moved to the Baltimore-Washington area. An award-winning teacher and coach, Malikov has taught at the Carroll County Dance Center and Ballet Conservatory, Sudbrook Magnet School, Severna Park Dance Academy, Stageworkz, Baltimore Ballet Company, Olney Ballet Theatre, and the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Performing Arts, as well as at the Baltimore School for the Arts. His students are successfully performing and competing in various competitions, and were the Youth America Grand Prix 2008 and 2012 gold-medalist winners. In 2018, Malikov received the Best Teacher Award at the WBAC GrandPrix competition in New York.

Since 2004, Malikov has served as artistic director of the Chesapeake Ballet Company, staging and choreographing two full-length productions per year, managing groups of more than 100 children, adults, stage crew, and volunteers.

Samantha Christiansen ’91

Samantha Christiansen has been on the BSA faculty since 2002. She received her early training through Baltimore Ballet and Peabody Preparatory doing the strict Royal Academy of Dancing syllabus. In 1987, Christiansen was accepted into the Baltimore School for the Arts where she studied under Norma Pera, Sylvester Campbell, Stephanie Powell, and Debra Robinson. In 1997, she was awarded the only distinction for the Royal Academy of Dance Grade 8 syllabus in the United States. Christiansen also performed with the Stephanie Powell Danse Ensembles I and II for five years, as well as with Movement Addiction in How to Disappear Completely.

In 1997, Christiansen began teaching privately and at various dance schools around Baltimore. She then went on to open her own school, the Northwest School of Dance based in Finksburg. During this time, she helped students get into top dance programs and win numerous awards at local and national dance competitions. She has also completed the Russian Vaganova Syllabus under John White and the José Limón teachers training workshop in New York.

Rob Reid

Eduard Rotman

Eduard Rotman graduated from the Music College of St. Petersburg Conservatory and received a master’s degree in piano performance at the Belarus State Conservatory. Before coming to the United States, he traveled all over the world as an accompanist for the Children’s Concert Chorus. He has worked as a ballet accompanist for many institutions, including Towson University, the Peabody Institute, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, as well as the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, DC, for the last seven years. He is on the faculty at Washington School of Ballet and Maryland Youth Ballet.

Anton Wilson

Anton T. Wilson, B.F.A., North Carolina School of the Arts, has performed with Ballet Theatre of Maryland; Parnassus Dance Theatre, Japan; Djazzex, Holland; Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo; Martita Goshen’s Earthworks; Jennifer Muller/The Works, New York, among others. He has taught, choreographed, and toured internationally for 34 years. Wilson is a 2007 and 2009 recipient of the Maryland State Arts Council’s Individual Artist Award for choreography. He was one of four choreographers selected to initiate the Four Steps Forward choreography project in The Hague, Holland. Locally, he has choreographed productions for the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and Opera Vivente, among others. In addition to workshops and master classes, Wilson teaches at the Baltimore School for the Arts and the Kirov Academy of Ballet, as well as maintaining his lifelong involvement in equestrian competitions.

Susan Wincek

Susan Wincek is passionate about both music and dance. As a young lady, she received her piano certification at Peabody Preparatory, then went on to study dance at Butler University graduating with a bachelor’s degree in dance. Wincek then started her professional career as a Spanish dancer with Maria Morales and continued on with various companies touring the Middle East, Spain, the United States, and Canada. These companies included Raquel Peña and José Malina. It was a great pleasure for her to be able to combined her two loves when she started to accompany ballet class for the Carter School in Severna Park. She has served as faculty for BSA since 2008.
